Diadora Volo 2 Review

Diadora Volo 2_women's can be purchased at The Running Well Store

The Diadora Volo 2 is a neutral trainer meant for any distance and all runs! I absolutely loved the first version of this shoe, so I was so excited to get this bad boy out on a run and see how it compared to the first version. This is one of those shoes that immediately catches your eye. It has a fun upper that boasts bright colors with a white or black background. The upper has a retro style to it, reminds me of style back in the 80’s and 90’s. The upper is also extremely light and VERY breathable, almost see-through. Maybe not ideal for a rainy day, but it felt great when I took it on a run on a warm spring day. This neutral trainer has a blown Flexoft foam, meaning the cushion is lightweight and bouncy!

THE BLUSHIELD (WHAT)???

Diadora Mythos Blushield can be found in all of their shoes
Diadora Mythos Blushield

Diadora is known for their Blushield technology, this technology ensures that the cushion lasts, and you get an awesome bouncy responsive ride. The Blushield pods inside of the shoe are little cylinders that continuously compress as we come down on the shoe and then expand as our foot leaves the ground, these little pods NEVER stay compressed, no matter how many miles you’ve got on the shoe. What does that mean you ask?? Well, that simply means that the shoe is going to feel as good on the last mile as it did on the first mile. Even though the foam in the shoe inevitably breaks down, those little pods will be there to give you continuous cushion and bounce.

The GOOOOOOD

When I put this shoe on, I immediately felt snug and secure in it. I felt hugged and cradled in all the right places! This was one of my favorite things about the first version, so I was happy to see that it still felt like a nice hug on my foot. The arch support hit just right, and for me, makes me feel like it is one with my body, and the fit really made me feel like I didn’t even have a shoe on! I wore this shoe around the store at first for a couple days to get myself accustomed to the higher offset of 10mm, because I am used to wearing a 0mm offset shoe. When I did get out on a run, I hardly noticed the difference. I took this shoe out on a run around my neighborhood, I’m just now getting back into running and building up my mileage slowly after a couple injuries put me down. I was nervous that I might need a more supportive shoe due to my slight pronation and feeling new to running all over again, but I was pleasantly surprised!! The foam underneath is a perfect combination of bouncy responsiveness and just the right amount of soft. I really appreciated that the foam wasn’t too soft nor did it feel like a firm minimal cushion. It was a perfect medium. I could feel the cushion as my foot landed but I could also still feel the road underneath me. With its light and airy upper I really felt like I was FLYING even though my pace was average at best.

The BAAAAAD

The heel cup gave me some trouble. Once out on my run I did feel some heel slipping and stopped to tighten and “heel lock” my laces. It felt snug in the medial forefoot but almost loose in the back heel area. The suede that lines the lace holes makes it hard to adjust the laces, but with a good pull I was able to get it sinched up. I did notice as soon as I got done running the laces were way too tight and I had some foot numbing that quickly went away once I loosened the laces. I had to play around with the tightness of the shoe quite a bit to get it just right. I have a narrow heel, so this does happen from time to time in a lot of different shoes. This was just a weird occurrence I noticed that as I wore the shoe more and more, I was able to figure it out.  Additionally, the upper does crease and buckle in some places in the toe box when you do sinch up your shoe. This didn’t bother me, but I know it does bother a lot of people.

Who Is This Shoe Good For?

Diadora Volo 2_women's

This shoe is a great option for people that do not overpronate or need a ton of support. If you love a lightweight easy ride, this is the shoe for you! While my arch did feel supported throughout my run, it is not known as an extremely supportive shoe. This shoe is a fantastic medium cushioned shoe and is perfect for people that love the Brook’s Ghost, or Mizuno Wave Rider.

Who Is This Shoe NOT Good For?

I would not recommend this shoe to someone that needs a lot of support or overpronates. I would also not recommend this shoe for people that love a ton of cushion. It is more of a lightweight option. This shoe does run a bit narrow and might not be a great option for someone with a wider, flat foot. Because the arch presence is higher it might bother some people. Trail runners might not appreciate the lightweight, airy upper because water or mud might easily get into the shoe.

About TRWS GURU Angela

Lee's Summit TRWS Fit Guru Angela Reed

I’m Angela! I grew up running Cross Country and Track but didn’t fall in love with running until I was out of school. When I fell in love with fitness and running, I knew I wanted to help others feel that same love and appreciation! I got certified as a Personal Trainer and moved from Colorado to Missouri in 2020. I grew up buying running shoes from my local running store in CO and knew I’d have to find a new local MO running store. I found The Running Well Store (Lee’s Summit location) and quickly became a customer, I then started working there in September of 2020 and became the manager in March 2021. I love helping people in any way that I can, and I love getting people excited about their new running journey!
