ASICS Sonicblast Review
Shakespeare once wrote, “What’s in a name? That which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet.” While I’m no poet or playwright, I am a runner, and I can confidently say the new Asics Sonicblast lives up to its name: it’s a blast. From the Astro Plate to the FF Blast midsole foam, this super trainer is a work of art, just not one about star-crossed lovers.
The Upper
Asics crafted the upper with 75% recycled polyester, underscoring the brand’s commitment to sustainability. The new Jacquard mesh is lightweight and breathable, delivering a secure yet comfortable fit. On foot, it feels airy, supportive, and well-balanced, exactly what you want when you are picking up the pace.
The Underfoot Feel
This is where the shoe truly shines. Few shoes make me feel powerful, but that word kept echoing in my head while running in the Sonic Blast. The Astro Plate provides a propulsive forward stride, channeling momentum into smooth, fast transitions.
Meanwhile, the Asics Grip outsole offers impressive traction at any speed, and the dual foam setup: FF Blast Max for responsiveness and FF Turbo for cushioning and rebound, strikes the perfect balance between bounce and comfort. Every step feels energized and efficient.
Who Is the Sonicblast for?
The Sonicblast is a plated trainer, making it ideal for runners who want a versatile shoe that can
handle both training and racing. It’s a great choice for:
● Up-tempo daily mileage
● Structured workouts
● Race day efforts
Who Isn't It For?
Plated shoes are designed to propel runners forward at faster paces. Because of that, the Sonic Blast may not be the best option for:
● Walkers
● Beginner runners
● Lifestyle or all-day wear
Why the ASICS Sonicblast?
Simply put, this shoe lives up to its name. It’s fun, fast, and versatile. I loved it for track workouts and tempo runs on the road; it’s bouncy, responsive, and helped me maintain cadence effortlessly. For runners looking for a super trainer that doubles as a race-day option, the Asics Sonic Blast is truly a blast to run in.
