Nike Pegasus 42 Review - The Running Well Store

Joey Holley / April 27, 2026 /

Executive Summary

  • The Nike Pegasus 42 is a versatile daily trainer with a full-length curved Air Zoom unit, improved responsiveness, and a roomier, more breathable forefoot than the prior version.
  • Best for runners who want one dependable shoe for easy miles, faster workouts, walking, and general activity without paying super-shoe prices.
  • Skip it if you need more stability or a very soft max-cushion ride; Nike Structure or Nike Vomero Plus may fit those needs better.

Break down of the new Nike Pegasus 42

We'll get into all the details in our Nike Pegasus 42 Review

  • The new Nike pegasus 42 is a big step up from the Pegasus 41 and for a
few good key reasons. One of the major improvements is that the shoe has
a full length-curved air zoom unit, running from toe to heel. This feature
helps improve the energy return in each step. I noticed a big jump in
responsiveness when running these shoes at all paces.
  • The second most prevalent update that was given to the shoe is the toe
box. It is now much more spacious in the toe box and forefoot area.
Matched with a very breathable upper light-weight mesh that helps keep
your feet dry and comfortable. As someone who has slightly wider feet and
a bit on the sweater side when running it is definitely a big plus.
  • The Nike pegasus comes in at a mere 300g or 10.59oz, making it a
relatively light weight trainer with a 10mm heel-to-toe drop. The heel cup
has a very secure feel to prevent “heel slip”. This is a very versatile shoe
that can be used from easy miles all the way up to faster interval workouts.

Who is the Nike Pegasus 42 best suited for?

  • A runner who wants a premium feeling shoe without paying a premium
    price tag.
  • Runners looking for an everyday trainer that is a jack of all trades.

Who might not need the Nike Pegasus 42?

  • A runner who needs a bit more support and stability underneath them
while running. Try the Nike Structure 26
  • A runner who prefers a lot of cushion or a soft shoe. Try the Nike Vomero
    plus

Why you should put the Nike Pegasus 42 in your rotation

  • The Nike Pegasus 42 is very well rounded that isn’t just optimal for running
but for a wide variety of activities. Whether you're looking for a shoe to
wear specifically for running or for long prolonged periods of time. The Nike
Pegasus 42 is a smart and safe recommendation when looking for a
    reliable everyday shoe.
